My Story
Cheryl Brady is the Founder and Executive Director of My First Couch, a Vallejo-based nonprofit committed to supporting foster and under-resourced youth with the resources, services, and encouragement they need to transition successfully into adulthood. Cheryl launched My First Couch in 2017 to fill the gaps she saw young people facing after foster care—especially the need for stability, trusted relationships, and practical tools for independence. Through My First Couch, Cheryl has helped build a reliable community hub where youth can access mentorship, life skills coaching, and support with critical documents, job readiness, and everyday essentials.
Cheryl’s leadership is rooted in compassion, accountability, and culturally responsive care. She believes that when youth have a safe space and consistent support, they can thrive in school, employment, and relationships—and build the foundation for long-term success. My First Couch programs blend practical resources with personal development, focusing on confidence, communication, financial literacy, and wellness.
In mid-2023, Cheryl expanded this vision by formalizing My First Couch’s youth arts programming, providing girls ages 12–15 with no-cost opportunities for creative expression through visual art and storytelling. Her approach centers youth voice and community belonging, creating spaces where young people are not only supported—but celebrated.
